Riez la romaine

A village steeped in history

Hubert DENIES

Between the Alps and Provence, the village of Riez nestles in the heart of the Valensole plateau. Built on a hillside at the confluence of 3 valleys, Riez la Romaine boasts Roman remains from a rich past. Granite columns, remnants of a temple, and a baptistery, one of the few examples of early Christian architecture in Provence, can be seen here. The Middle Ages gave the town its ramparts, whose two gates and one tower can still be admired today. Riez la Romaine offers a real plunge into history.
